As technology advances its is constantly finding new ways to be integrated into fitness, Today i want to share my experience with "Virtual challenges" and how they can benefit us and encourage us to move more. I will be using Conqueror challenges as my reference but there are others out there! lets begin.
Every reliable product review should start with an introductory paragraph. This is your chance to hook your readers right in and let them know what to expect. Are you reviewing one product or comparing a few? What is the full name of the product(s)? Share with your readers your expertise in this area; your frustration with products out in the market that haven’t met your needs; and why this review will offer them the ins and outs of the product’s benefits.
First Impressions
At first glance what I'm looking it at is just another fitness app right? Well not exactly. Rather than provide content for a monthly fee this app has broken the mold on the new norm. Here we sign up with a one time fee per challenge, but what is the challenge? That is up to you. The basics are you pick a pre determined distance challenge such as walking the length of the amazon, pop the code into your app and you are off! Trying to defeat the goal you have assigned yourself in the hopes of getting a pretty medal at the end and yes they are beautiful.
Giving it a Bash!
Getting started. First things first the set up, Head to the main website (button?), acquire your desired code, Get the app and pop it in. Good to go. This was super easy and only took five minutes, the next bit i opted for convenience and linked a fit bit to the app but if you cant link your selected device you can enter steps manually if need be! I opted for Hadrian's wall (90 Miles) and set a deadline of 4 weeks to try and get myself to average 3 miles a day. Did it work? Yes. The first day in i was eager and motivated, i opted to walk where possible, take the stairs and even finished a run that previously would have lost to Monday blues. As i progressed more and more eager to close the distance nice little postcards are sent to you with cool info about places along the actual wall along with an interactive mini map. I opted to do this solo but you can team up with your friends if the distance seems a bit daunting. If you are someone who maybe does not have buckets of confidence that's ok as once you sign up there is a private Facebook group full of supportive members to help and encourage you on the journey! You also get to do some good for the planet as every twenty percent you manage to complete a tree is planted or 10 bottles are prevented from reaching the ocean. Good for you. Good for the planet. WIN. WIN.
The Good, The Bad & The Ugly?
The good? These challenges are a great way for you to achieve more steps in a day which is an easier way to be more active, there's no need for killer cardio or mega strength weights. just a nice chilled approach to being more active. i found as i improved my progress i tired to do more in other aspects of my life such as how i eat and you may as well if you take up the challenge. The community group is a great place for advice and can only be accessed by people who are doing a challenge (verified via email) so no trolls or spam just advice from likeminded individuals who have completed or are in the middle of their own challenge and the medals are absolutely beautiful.
The bad? Honestly there is no bad. The challenges have worked hard to be inclusive of all and the prices are fair, the only thing that i could pick at is that the shorter challenges cost the same as the longer ones meaning you feel a little less value when opting for something like Mount Fuji (46 Miles) when compared to Route 66 (2280 Miles).
The Ugly? There is no ugly. The app is smooth, capable and free. The challenges are low cost, straightforward and inspiring. The medals are beautiful and incentivizing.
Final Thoughts?
These challenges are nice encouraging way to get those steps in, be more active and better yourself without the commitments of a gym membership or an unmovable deadline of that 5k you regrettably signed up with your mates at 22:00 in the local spoons. Cheaper than most gym memberships, something you can do solo or with your mates. I would honestly recommend giving one a go! and tell me you have looked at every medal and thought ugly. nope. There's even fun little themes now, get the kids involved in the Scooby due challenges or grab your fellowship and take the ring to Mordor. Honestly you wont regret it!
